Omar is a pharmacist with extensive experience gained in hospital, commissioning and primary care settings, and a long-standing focus on medicines optimisation.

He currently works as Lead Prescribing Pharmacist Manager, overseeing a repeat prescribing service and leading a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. He is a patient-facing clinician managing a caseload that includes complex medication reviews, long-term conditions and minor illness, and he runs diabetes clinics covering insulin and injectable therapies. He supports patients through opioid and benzodiazepine reduction, leads practice-based clinical audits and QOF delivery, delivers clinical education sessions and mentors medical students, nurses, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. He is an active contributor to PCN pharmacy strategy.

Previously, as QIPP Prescribing Projects Manager at NHS Blackpool CCG, Omar developed and delivered system-level prescribing projects, presented complex programme information to internal and external stakeholders, built and maintained national networks, and handled Freedom of Information and professional queries on behalf of the CCG. Earlier in his career as a hospital pharmacist he developed a ward-based One Stop Dispensing service that improved patient care and reduced medication errors, and supported the medicines management of clinical trials.

He has a special interest in diabetes and a proven track record of delivering complex QI projects and efficiency savings at system level.
